PAIN & INFLAMMATION

UNDERSTANDING PAIN & INFLAMMATION

Inflammation is the body’s natural response in defense against damaged cells, viruses, bacteria, etc. in an attempt to remove these foreign invaders and allow itself to heal. So, in this sense, inflammation is beneficial. However, there are two different types of inflammation: acute inflammation which appears then disappears quickly typically over a couple days and chronic inflammation which can last for months or years as a result of failure to eliminate the root cause. Common signs of inflammation in the body include redness, swelling, heat, pain, loss on function or stiffness, fever or chills, fatigue, headaches, or loss of appetite.

An imbalanced diet, stress, food sensitivities, a sedentary lifestyle, and more can contribute to chronic inflammation and this chronic inflammation has been connected to a wide variety of conditions from aches and pains to Crohn's disease and cancer. Chronic inflammatory conditions that typically cause pain are arthritis, bursitis, inflammatory gastrointestinal conditions, and more.
